Carmen McGuinness, EdD, BCBAd Dr. McGuinness is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (# 0-13-14988), specializing in specific learning disabilities, developmental disorders, emotional behavioral disorders, child and adult attachment trauma, relationship difficulties, and behavioral medicine. Dr. McGuinness holds Masters degrees in Health Psychology Behavioral Medicine, and in Holistic Nutrition Education.
And she received her Doctoral degree in Special Education and Behavior Analysis from Nova Southeastern University. Additionally, Dr. McGuinness has received specialized training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, treatment of attachment trauma, and is a licensed provider of HeartMath biofeedback.
Dr. McGuinness has been working with children with special needs and their parents for 28 years, having founded her first educational facility in 1984, After ten years of operating a PK through 8th grade Montessori school Dr. McGuinness began a three year study of dyslexia. During this period she researched and developed the Phono-Graphix® reading method and authored Simon & Shuster’s best-selling Reading Reflex and How to Increase Your Child's Verbal Intelligence published by Yale University Press. Since 2004 Dr. McGuinness has focused on treatment of developmental disorders and the attention, learning, and behavior problems that frequently accompany these diagnoses. Today Dr. McGuinness is in private clinical practice at Chrysalis Center for Change and is the school administrator lead behavior analyst at Chrysalis School. Sheryl Schmucker, MS, CCC-SLP is a veteran public school teacher of special education students. She worked in special education centers and in public schools (K-12) as a Speech-Language Pathologist for 8 years, and has spent the last 26 years as a special education teacher in a K-5 multi-age classroom for students with varying language impairments. Sheryl has been a Phono-Graphix teacher trainer since 2001. In addition to her work with students, Sheryl has trained dozens of Seminole County teachers in the Phono-Graphix reading method. Sheryl is an inclusion teacher at Chrysalis School in Kindergarten through 8th grade, and also provides speech and language therapy. Marla E is the Art teacher at Chrysalis School. Mara E studied Fine Art at Rollins College in Winter Park and graduated from the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale. Her work has been featured in major Florida venues including Mount Dora Center for the Arts, Osceola Center for the Arts, the Orlando Museum of Art, Casselberry Art House, Casselberry City Hall, Lake Mary City Hall, the Mayor's Gallery at Orlando City Hall, and Art Basel Miami. Marle E received a Professional Development Grant from United Arts of Central Florida in which she instructed children in her medium, Urban Plaster, and had a show and installation called "The Urban Plaster Experience" incorporating the children's art with hers. About her work with children Marla E says, "Creating is a huge part of my life. I'm constantly discovering through art. Teaching Art is a learning experience as I guide my students toward discovery."
Maria Gomez is a graduate of Universidad del Sagrado Corazon, and holds a Montessori teaching credential and Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. Maria is a veteran Montessori teacher, having worked in several Central Florida schools. Maria is the lead teacher in our Early Grades classroom at Chrysalis School, and is the assistant school administrator.
Geoffrey McGuinness holds a Bachelor's degree (hons) from University of Bristol. He is a 20+ years veteran teacher, teaching children with a broad variety of exceptionalities in grades one through twelve in private and public schools since 1992. Geoffrey is the co-author of Reading Reflex and How to Increase Your Child's Verbal Intelligence. Geoffrey has addressed the International Dyslexia Society, the Scottish Dyslexia Society, Core Knowledge Foundation, and has consulted for the British Education Ministry. He has trained thousands of teachers in the Phono-Graphix and Language Wise methods in the US, Canada, and Great Britain, and taught hundreds of children to read in weekly and intensive reading therapy since 1994. Geoffrey teaches 6th through 9th grades at Chrysalis School.
